Today we are looking at video resources for a flipped classroom. Below are some of the resources that we looked at today.
Apps and resources to create videos-
Educreations- whiteboard app where you can put pictures on the screen and draw on the screen while recording your voice. You get a link that can be shared with students where they can get to the video to view it in class or at home.
Erasr App- you can pull in pictures and then erase parts of the background so that you only have a certain portion of the picture
Sock Puppets- app where you can create a short video using sock puppets. It records your voice and then changes your voice to sound like a sock puppet.
Snag it- computer program that allows you to take a screen shot and then pull in different pictures or screens and record a video of your voice along with what is on the screen. Paid program.
Jing- Free version of snag it. Made by the same company.
Devices to use for recording your own videos-
iPad- takes great videos, but will need to have someone hold it or find a place to prop it up. Could also purchase a stand for it. Can upload your videos directly from the ipad.
iPhone- Same as iPad, but it is a little easier to hand the phone.
Other Tablets- Same as iPad, but just may vary on process depending on the tablet.
Video Camera- does not have to be an expensive video camera, as long as it records. Will have to have a way to upload the video to the computer so you can upload to your website.
Swivel- device that you can put your iphone in and it will follow the teacher around the room while recording so you do not have to move the camera. Comes with microphones that connect to the phone so you have good sound as well.
Video Resources-
Youtube- numerous video resources that you can find to show videos to your students. Several other teachers have created lessons that you can use so you do not have to create your own videos.
One issue is you may get the advertisements and suggested videos that are inappropriate. You can use safeshare.tv to get around that.
Khan Academy- Great resource for videos and practice lessons. You can use your google account to sign in. You can create a teacher and student accounts so that you can assign different lessons to your students. Or you can just use the videos from their site to help teacher your lessons.
Discovery Education- A lot of great resources that you can share with your class. Need to have a log in. You can get a limited log in for free, or talk to your school about a premium log in.
Learning.com- Program that is purchased by Aldine. Teacher can assign lessons to their students and track how they are doing on that lesson. There are skills for math, L/A, and computer skills.
NBC Learn- NBC has posted every one of their news broadcasts for teachers to use in the classroom. You can search for a specific topic, or just search by dates. Each video has a description of when and where it was recorded along with a script of what the video is about. You can also search for videos that coincide with different standards.
