Focusing on the goals of 2017-2018
This year we decided to tackle the next step in using resources available to the faculty. Based on Bright Bytes data we knew we needed to move past the substitution level that we have been at for three years and start our assault on Augmentation. My goal was to improve campus communication by being more available for staff when needed for coaching and hand over the repair to Tech Services.
We began with a focus on Chromebooks and the expansion of what they were capable of beyond Kahoot and "research". Teachers met with the iTech before the school year started and again Bi Monthly to discuss implementation of the technology in an efficient manner. The teachers expressed concern at being limited to 12-15 chrome books per class. We addressed this early on with coaching meetings between the iTech and primarily the ELA SKills Specialist to map out a plan to demonstrate using differentiated grouping to rotate through the use of devices. A hybrid model developed with teachers rotating groups on some days and sharing device carts with each other on days when they needed a full set.
The addition of Nearpod and Brainpop helped toward the second semester. Teachers began using tools available from both of those programs to augment teaching practices. This allowed for flipped classroom, better student communication at home and increased comfort with student BYOT.
